California, Knows How to Party!!!!!

Okay, before I jump into our San Diego trip this past week, I must give my usual movie reviews!  Okay I've seen 2 movies lately, "Easy A", and "Case 39."  Emma Stone stars in Easy A as a high school junior who lies to her best friend about losing her virginity and it spreads around school like a wild fire. Her English class is reading the Scarlet Letter, and she decides to take on that stereotype.  Its a pretty funny movie, with it ending up not like she planned.  I would recommend it and give it an 8.5.  Renee Zellwegger stars in Case 39 as a social worker who helps troubled children.  Little did she know she was going to be helping out the "devil."  It a movie not to watch by yourself and the little girl who stars is as creepy as they come!  I give it a 9.

Sand Dunes
Okay, so San Diego!  Hayley, Dee (our other travel friend), and I decided to go to San Diego about 1 1/2 weeks ago, so last Sunday night we booked a room and planned our trip!  Once Dee go off work Wednesday morning we picked her up and headed to Cali!!!!!  On our way we saw true rocky mountains, went through very stinky areas, saw sand dunes, and went through Border Patrol stops.  At one of the borders (apparently we were closer to Mexico than we thought) they asked us if we had any Plants, Animals, Fruits or Vegetables.  I mean what if I was eating an apple, would they have made me throw it out?  Or what if my sweet Oreo, or Haley's Winston was in the car with us, would we have to give up our dogs (or turn around)?  Or what if I was my mom, and taking a friend some rose bush cuttings?  We never did quite understand why we couldn't take those items from Arizona to California and I guess we never will.

So also along the way, we stopped at an outlet mall to have some pizza, because I was craving it and what did we end up doing?  That's right, shopping.  Got some cute stuff and great deals though!  So when we go to Pacific Beach http://www.pacificbeach.org/ (the area of San Diego we stayed in), we checked into the hotel and instead of exploring the area, we crashed on the bed and watched none other than "Extreme Couponing" on TLC.  These people on this show are CRAZY. If you've never watched it, you should watch at least one episode.  These people live, eat, and breathe couponing.  They make some great deals, such as buy $620 worth of groceries and only spendning $6, but who needs that many groceries weekly?

Hayley, Liz, and Dee at dinner
Anyway, we watched that and rested for about 2 hours, and then we decided we were on vacay and needed to get up and do something!  It was a lot colder than anticipated so we didn't get to wear our cute dresses, but had to wear jeans, etc. We ate dinner at a place called "Nick's at the Beach."  It was very tasty, and we had a lot of fun there, maybe too much fun.  Just kidding mom :)  We had heard about a street called Garnet Street where people our age hung out so we decided to walk on down that way. We had lots of fun and met some cool girls on our way.  We go home very late that night so we slept in a little bit the next day (plus Dee hadn't gotten any sleep since Tuesday!!!!!)

Seals on La Jolla Beach
Thursday morning we woke up got dressed and set out for site seeing.  Our first stop was the Sunny Jim Cave http://www.cavestore.com/. It is the only sea cave accessible by land.  I guess it was worth the $4 admission. It was very dark, and stinking (from all the birds) but it was still cool.  Next on our list was walking down to the beach area and seeing true Sea Seals (or whatever they are called).  They we sooooo cute, and made quite a lot of noise!   Next, we drove through the beautiful beach town of La Jolla Beach http://www.lajollabythesea.com/home.php, and continued on to Coronado, Ca.  This is a beautiful resort style island next to San Diego.  We had to take this huge 2 mile long bridge to get to the island.  On the island we saw huge houses, beautiful yachts, and the historic Hotel Del Coronado http://www.hoteldel.com/. We bought some souveniers from a gift shop (as tourists do) and then headed back to our hotel to figure out what to eat for dinner.  We wanted some good seafood, so I called my brother to ask him where to go (since he was just in San Diego).  His friend that lives in SD suggesed the Harbor House downtown, and there we went.  It was cold and rainy, so Hayley had to go and buy a fleece, but luckily I had brought a sweater! Dinner was delicious.  I had Ahi Tuna, Dee had blackened Catfish, and Hayley and a platter of fried fish, scallops, and shirmp.  MMMMmmmmm Good! On our way home from dinner, we passed a Oscar mayer Weiner Mobile and Hayley just HAD to take a pic, lol.
Sunset on Pacific Beach

Friday, we woke up around 9 and hit the road!  It was a rough ride home. About 45 minutes into our drive, Hayley and I started seeing what seemed to be rain hit the windshield.  We looked around and it look like there were patches of snow, but we thought Southern California didn't get snow.  I looked at the temp on my car and it read 37 degrees, and so we decided it was definitely snow.  That is 2 random sitings of snow Hayley and I have seen on our trip out to the "Desert."  The trip seemed longer on the way home, but maybe it was because Hayley and I knew we would have no time to rest before we had to go to work!  It was a great little weekend getaway, can't wait for another one!
